I believe you can't appreciate real love 'til you've been burned
Darren Hayes and Daniel Jones got it right on that one......the test of fire makes fine steel they say.However, the experience itself is not exactly something you'd like to live through, given a choice. But we're not given much choice in life about what we experience......so when it comes across...making the most of it is the wisest course of action. Getting burned truly helps you appreciate the meaning of love in its deepest sense.
